Lewis Barbecue pitmaster John Lewis will open JL’s Southwest Brisket Burgers in the trailer parked outside of his N. Nassau Street restaurant Wednesday, Aug. 18. JL’s will serve “backyard-style burgers, frosty custard desserts and ice-cold margaritas,” a press release said.
“Whenever I travel back to El Paso, I’m always sure to stop by a roadside stand for a green chile cheeseburger, so I thought this new menu was a great new direction for the trailer,” said Lewis, who will move the trailer’s former concept, Juan Luis, to the space previously occupied by Workshop in 2022.
Lewis and Lewis Barbecue partner Philip Powers created the JL’s menu, which will highlight brisket and hatch green chiles. Look for green chile cheeseburgers, chile cheese wedge fries, hot guts sausage dogs, Hatch chile frozen custard sundaes and more.
“The menu is chock-full of my favorite ingredient, hatch green chiles, and is a fun alternative if you don’t feel like barbecue,” Lewis said. “Philip and I have been working really hard to perfect these burgers and dogs, and we’re excited to share them with our guests. We hope it’s a taste of nostalgia.”
JL’s will open for lunch and dinner daily starting at 11 a.m. For more information or to place a takeout order, visit lewisbarbecue.com.
