The 2021 Charleston Beer Fest (CBF) has been canceled “due to the recent surge in COVID cases in the Lowcountry,” festival organizers Palmetto Community Care announced in a Friday press release. All CBF ticket holders will receive a refund in the coming days.

“As a nonprofit organization focused on public health in our community, we cannot in good conscience hold this festival amidst the historic surge in COVID cases that are once again pushing the limits of our healthcare system,” said Bradley Childs, executive director of Palmetto Community Care, in the release.

South Carolina counted 3,917 total cases of COVID-19 (2,299 confirmed) Sept. 10, the day after President Joe Biden announced a set of sweeping vaccine mandates for federal employees and contractors and health care workers. As of Sept. 10, 49.1% of South Carolinians have completed vaccination.

Next year’s Charleston Beer Fest is scheduled for October 22, 2022 at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.
