Butcher & Bee is hosting a special brunch with soon-to-be-open Vern’s this weekend, March 19-20.

Vern’s is slated to open later this spring on 41 Bogard Street and owned by former McCrady’s chef de cuisine and bar manager Daniel “Dano” and Bethany Heinze. The couple left the Lowcountry for Los Angeles in 2016, but have found their way back home in April of last year to the quaint little building on the corner of Bogard and Ashe streets.

“We just really missed the home feeling that we have in Charleston and the community here,” Bethany said. “Especially since wanting our own independent venture. We’ve just always had our dream of our little restaurant.”

The restaurant’s name comes from Dano’s grandfather, the first business owner in his immediate family.

The “mash-up” brunch will showcase some of the neighborhood bistro’s menu items, aiming to brighten up familiar American dishes paired with low-ABV brews. Dano describes the food as “American creative,” with shareable dish items like pasta and roast chicken.

The brunch collaboration will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. all weekend. Reservations available on Resy. For more information on the mash-up, head to butcherandbee.com, and for an announcement on Vern’s opening, follow it on Instagram @verns_chs or sign-up for its email list at vernschs.com.
