Best Place to Work
Charleston Animal Society

Charleston Animal Society fought tooth and claw from the Runners-Up slot last year to take the title of Best Place to Work in 2022. The past few years have been filled with grim news and bleak numbers, and finding the silver lining has surely been difficult. But the Animal Society’s day-to-day work often sees people and animals at their happiest, even during a pandemic. Adoption numbers skyrocketed, and adoption event after adoption event saw happy wagging tails head out the door. Dogs, cats, rabbits and more — Charleston Animal Society helps them all.

Shelter employees, of course, get to kick it with furry friends all day, but even when things get difficult, and they do, getting to feel like you’re a part of something bigger than yourself that’s so vital to the community can be its own reward. Is there such a thing as too many pets? We don’t think so; that’s why my wife and I adopted our second puppy from the Animal Society in March.
