This Blotter is taken from reports filed with the Charleston Police Department between May 1 to May 15, 2022.

Blotter of the Week: Police reported an instance of a downtown man “screaming political messages” through a megaphone. Several people reportedly complained to police, but due to the activity being a constitutionally protected protest, police could do little other than leave complainants with a business card.

What if it’s just a cool rock?

Police arrested a West Ashley man in possession of a “white in color rock-like substance” the suspect called “anxiety medicine.” The rock field tested negative for cocaine and methamphetamine. Police took it in for further testing.

A catalyst for change

A West Ashley woman reported to police the catalytic converter had been stolen from her car. She said she knew something was wrong when she heard the sound of a saw and noticed feet poking out from beneath her vehicle.

License to steal

A downtown woman reported to police her apartment had been broken into and several gift cards (and her driver’s license) stolen. Maybe the thief mistook the license for a gift card.
