Tuesday’s primary election saw some former President Donald Trump-backed GOP candidates advance to the next round of voting in November, toppling longtime incumbents like U.S. Rep. Tom Rice, who previously voted in favor of Trump’s impeachment. Other races, however, like the high-profile S.C.-1 election saw Trump’s favored candidate Katie Arrington fall short against incumbent U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, whose endorsement from former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley may have given her the edge needed to come out on top.
More than 100,000 casted their ballots early, thanks to a change in election law that allowed for no-excuse voting ahead of election day, according to the S.C. Election Commission.
