Blotter of the week: Officers responded to an Aug. 3 call from a West Ashley Quik Stop employee who reported a man stole $42 worth of canned oysters and a bottle of syrup the previous day. The guy ended up getting away. Don’t even want to know what he made for dinner.
Brand confusion?
Police confronted a man sitting on a West Ashley motel stairwell with open containers on Aug. 5. He consented to be searched, saying he had “ganja” on him — a nickname for marijuana. He may not know that though because the substance he had on him was a white rock-like substance. He was arrested either way.
Not fast enough
An officer on patrol on Mary Street downtown Aug. 9 saw a man ditch his Big Gulp cup as he walked up. The man admitted the cup was filled with booze but said he didn’t know about the open container law. The officer reported the man did indeed have previous open container charges and added another charge for good measure.
Mom to the rescue
Officers responded to an Aug. 5 to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in a West Ashley lot. Officers saw two kids sitting in a white Mercedes with the windows down smoking a blunt next to two empty beers and a can of Twisted Tea. Officers notified their parents. One of the boy’s mom vouched for them and took them home.
