Blotter of the week: A Charleston police officer reported Aug. 17 that he saw two men in a “heated bout of fisticuffs” in Marion Square downtown. The report said one man openly drank from a 42-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve beer and claimed that he started the fight due to “a flippant remark regarding the genitalia of [his] paramour.” Yikes.

The old switcheroo
An officer met with a man Aug. 13 at his home in West Ashley after he reported someone stole his lawnmower. He told police a man who repeatedly tried to sell him a broken lawn mower recently was the culprit.

Parental frustrations
Officers responded to a call Aug. 13 about shots fired at a West Ashley home. A woman said she was so sick of her son and daughter arguing that she grabbed her husband’s Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and fired two rounds into a door.

Keep us in the loop
Police received numerous calls Aug. 13 about a loud sounds from a car driving in loops around downtown. The report said the investigation is ongoing.
