North Charleston police said there were more than 50 vehicle break-ins over the weekend at several apartment complexes. Deputy Police Chief Karen Cordray told the press that the alleged suspects were possibly looking for guns during the early morning hours over the weekend between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the Windsor Hill, Ingleside and Wescott areas.
โPredominantly, in our business, itโs mainly unlocked vehicles, so theyโre not secure or something along those lines,โ Cordray told WCSC. โEvery once in a while, we get these trends like we had occur over this weekend where you have people who are targeting vehicles. They actually do target specific kinds of vehicles. Theyโre hoping to find guns, anything like that high dollar property in the area.โ
Police said the crooks targeted SUVs, pick-up trucks and muscle cars. Among the reported stolen items were a shotgun, ballistic vest, wallets and laptops.
โMake sure you park in a lighted area. Thatโs always good because lighting โ itโs just like anything else โ they can be visible,โ Cordray said. โThey donโt want that. Theyโre trying to be as covert as possible.โ The North Charleston Police Department is asking for videos or tips in helping find the suspects.
