Comedy at The Wonderer

Comedian D’Lai wowed America in 2004 when he won Star Search Las Vegas, and since then he’s taken his “transparent, raw and uncut” stand-up act across the country. D’Lai, who is a prevalent entrepreneur, motivational speaker and author, will perform for an intimate audience at the The Wonderer wellness and social club. The Lousiana native appeared on popular shows such as HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and regularly tours at national universities and colleges.

Local art pop-up

Stroll and shop one-of-a-kind works on display from a variety of local artists at The Loutrel in partnership with Affordable Art of Charleston. The pop-up features local favorites such as Nancy Rodden, Ann Schwartz, Debb R. Warren, Rick Sargent, Haley Mathews, Shelby Leblanc and Katherine Dunlap. In addition to the featured artists, the event will offer free refreshments for guests on Aug. 24 and live entertainment for guests on Aug. 25 and 26 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

7th Surfboard Auction and Raffle

Charleston nonprofit Warrior Surf Foundation, which works to provide free surf therapy, yoga, wellness classes and community to veterans struggling with PTSD, will host its 7th Annual Surfboard Auction and Raffle this weekend. Surfers can bid online on this year’s big-ticket item: a one-of-a-kind surfboard signed by Jimmy Buffet. All bids and raffle tickets sold go directly to Warrior Surf Foundation.

Back to School clothing swap

Charleston-based nonprofit We Are Family is working to make the transition back to school as easy as possible for local LGBTQ+ students. Many students struggle to get the school supplies they need or worry about having proper fitting clothes to wear for the new school year, so the group will host a free clothing swap this weekend. Bring two bags of items such as school uniforms, backpacks and clothes and swap your items for something new.
