Local cake artist Julie McAllister was recently featured in Netflixโ€™s hit competition show, Is it Cake?, and sheโ€™s bringing the cast to Charleston for a hyper-realistic cake artist residency in boutique hotel, The Loutrel.

The installation begins July 8 and will be free and open to the public through September 30. Guests can expect to see an array of โ€œrealistic southern dishes, coastal creatures and baubles.โ€

For those not familiar with Is it Cake?, or the concept of hyper-realistic cakes, the Netflix showโ€™s description gives a fairly good summary of the fun: โ€œcontestants attempt to fool a new lineup of guest judges with hyper-realistic cakes resembling everyday objects.โ€

Local fans of the show can celebrate the new installation with a meet-and-greet event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 8. Attendees can enjoy complimentary cake and light bites and cake-inspired cocktails will be available for purchase from the Veranda Lounge bar.

Is It Cake?โ€™s season three cast members including Kristin Eagles, Jujhar Man, Timmy Norman, Grace Pak, Raina Washington, Caitlyn Taylor and winner Henderson Gonzalez, will be in attendance. Theyโ€™ll discuss their inspirations and tactics and reveal their installation cakes.

RSVPs are encouraged via The Loutrelโ€™s website
