Hip Hop legend Project Pat will make a headlining performance and offer a VIP meet-and-greet at the Back 2 School Benefit show, to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. July 27 at North Charleston’s Purple Buffalo.

Hosted by Charleston Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Adesso Entertainment, the benefit concert will raise money for school supplies for students. It’s the 5th annual Back 2 School drive hosted by BLM, but it’s the first time they’ve added in a concert component. In past years, according to group leader Marcus McDonald, the drive has raised between $3,000- $5,000 for supplies for students in historically Black communities, like downtown’s Eastside.

The July 27 event will feature an exciting evening of live music, visual arts, vendors, BBQ and soul food plus vegan options. The highlight of the night will be a performance by one of Hip Hop’s top legends, Three 6 Mafia Member, Project Pat.

“We are incredibly excited to bring together the community for an evening of music, art, and education,” McDonald said. “This event not only supports a great cause but also highlights the vibrant culture and unity within our community. We’re especially honored to have Project Pat bringing his legendary talent to support our mission.”

The event will be hosted by influencer/radio host Kris Kaylin and influencer/comedian Who Mayno. You’ll find performances from vibrant local acts like Semkari, Kweena, Crucial BGR, Laylow Lee, King Cutler and Dufflebagg Dougie. DJ Norway and DJ Scrib will keep the vibes high all evening.

Vendors include visual artists like Demetrius Bing, clothing sellers like Skigh Drip, Ice Cold Clothing, and Holy City shop. For food, don’t miss vegan options from Vibrant Alkaline Vegan Meals and Scott’s Grand, plus soul food from Keoni’s and more grub from Carolinaz Smoke Box & Grill and Futnuss. There’ll also be a table from the League of Women Voters.

“It’s a really eclectic list of different artists from different age ranges and styles, but all hip hop,” McDonald said. “So this lineup is very representative of the South and our community.”

Tickets for the event start at $30 and can be purchased on eventbrite or at the door. All proceeds will go directly to funding the Back 2 School Giveaway, ensuring that students are equipped with the supplies they need for a successful school year.
