Stephen and Evie McGee Colbert announce an event at the Gaillard Center Sept. 22 in celebration of their cookbook launch.

The Gaillard Center and Buxton Books will release tickets at 11 a.m. July 26 for An Afternoon with Stephen Colbert and Evie McGee Colbert, a Sept. 22 event in celebration of the Colberts’ launch of their collaborative cookbook, Does This Taste Funny? Recipes Our Family Loves.

The Colberts will be in conversation on stage at the Gaillard with a guest who is yet to be announced.

Owner of Buxton Books, Polly Buxton said, “We are beyond thrilled to help celebrate and shepherd Evie and Stephen’s cookbook in their hometown! The book is a beautiful celebration of connection and community, which is what we love to promote and celebrate at Buxton Books. And being able to partner with the Gaillard – such a cultural hub here in Charleston –  makes it even sweeter.”

As the Colberts explain it, Does This Taste Funny? had its beginnings in the Covid lockdown, when the couple had their three kids back under one roof. “We had dinner each night as a family. Cooking together became a major source of entertainment,” said Evie Colbert in a press release.

The cookbook shares the Colberts’ favorite recipes from their South Carolina home kitchen —- from seafood to desserts and drinks. The book is tied together with playful dialogue between the Charleston natives and gorgeous shots of their food, family and home.

All tickets include a copy of Does This Taste Funny? Recipes Our Family Loves by Stephen Colbert and Evie McGee Colbert. Learn more at gaillardcenter.org.
