The Gin Joint on East Bay Street will host a Sept. 13 event that brings together dance, poetry, cuisine and cocktails — all in celebration of Latin heritage month.
“La Noche: Tango & Tapas” is presented by the bicoastal entertainment company, DKW Productions, led by Della Watson, in collaboration with the Poetry Society of South Carolina.
The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a showcase of Argentine tango by dancers Marquel and Tanja Landy, who will entertain guests with their interpretation of this iconic Latin dance.
Meanwhile, guests can enjoy a carefully curated selection of tapas, “a taste of authentic Argentine cuisine,” Watson said. The mixologists at the Gin Joint have even crafted special cocktails to complement the dishes.

In addition to tapas, cocktails and tango, “La Noche” will entertain guests with live poetry and storytelling, especially featuring narratives rich in Argentine cultural heritage. “People will be able to eat this great food while hearing memories and stories about it,” Watson said.
Loli Molina Muñoz, a poet and fiction writer born in Málaga, Spain, and based in South Carolina since 2013, will share poetry and short stories. She’ll be joined by Mexico-born writer Juan Gonzalez, who will share excerpts from his book that’s about “a woman named Gloria who makes the best tacos in Mexico,” Watson said. “I won’t say what the secret ingredient is, you’ll have to come and hear from Juan to find out.”
The walls of the Gin Joint will host a colorful, tango-inspired series of paintings by Orangeburg artist Janet Kozachek. “All of these different performances, and cuisine and art forms together offer a complete sensory experience,” Watson said.
After the main event, an after-party will take place upstairs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., where guests can mingle with the performers and enjoy complimentary beverages. Tickets start at $49 for this one-night-only event at dkwproductions.com.
“Our main goal is to create a sense of community, to introduce people to new friends, and to have fun. You don’t have to speak Spanish in order to enjoy this event,” Watson said. “It will be really immersive, so if you know how to dance the tango, we encourage you to. Ultimately, we want people to feel welcome and have fun for our first event in Charleston.”
