Meanwhile in Congress, Republicans will retake control of the U.S. Senate by a narrow majority, but vote-tallying for the U.S. House may take some time as Democrats have a chance to retake control of the lower chamber.
In Charleston County, voters appeared to send a solid “no” message to Charleston County Council on its request to extend a half-cent sales tax to raise billions for road and other projects, while Republican Carl Ritchie unseated incumbent Democratic incumbent Kristin Graziano for Charleston County sheriff. The Charleston County school board will also reshuffle as two incumbents lost their seats.
