After throwing a bit St. Patrick’s Day Bash on March 17, Irish pub Bumpa’s will close its doors.

“Owning a bar with my brother had always been a dream of mine, and I’m so glad we got to make it a reality,” co-owner Dan Sullivan said in a statement. “It pains me that this chapter is ending, but I’m so proud of what we built. I’m beyond grateful for our staff and will forever appreciate the locals and visitors who filled our place with cheer for nearly five years.”

Dan and Conor Sullivan sat down with Charleston City Paper last March to talk about Bumpa’s, named after their grandfather, and the joy of owning a family-run business.

At the time Dan told City Paper that living near and working with family members was “chaotic and fun.” He added, “But in Bumpa’s words, ‘it’s been beautiful.’”

The Sullivans also detailed all the challenges of owning a business, from retrofitting the historic property on Cumberland Street to operating during the pandemic. “I’ve been humbled by this business,” Dan said.

You can help the brothers and the Bumpa’s team celebrate one last time with a blowout party March 17. Enjoy limited edition food items like cottage pie, and corned beef and cabbage as well as green beer from Low Tide Brewing.  There will also be Irish breakfast shots and music from local bagpipe players.

The restaurant will be open during normal business hours, 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11:30 a.m. until midnight Sunday through Wednesday, until its closing.
