MORNING HEADLINES |  A statewide burning ban is in effect after fires broke out over the weekend in Pickens and Greenville counties.

State Forestry Commission officials say the ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris, as well as campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires. 

“The statewide burning ban remains in effect as wildfire risks remain high across the state,” Gov. Henry McMaster said in a statement. “Anyone who violates this ban can and will go to jail.”

As of Sunday night, the Table Rock Fire in Pickens County had grown to 1,300 acres and a fire in Greenville County had grown to 800 acres.  Three state parks in the Upstate are closed due to fires. Showers today are expected to ease dry conditions.
