North Charleston’s Fourth of July festival
Celebrate Independence Day with friends and family at North Charleston’s annual festival. This year’s event features live music followed by the Lowcountry’s Fourth of July fireworks show. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets, and kick back to enjoy the show. Remember, no grills, sparklers or other outside fireworks are permitted. Food and beverage vendors will be available on site. Parking is free.

Patriots Point Independence Day bash
Celebrate the Fourth of July at the most patriotic place in the Lowcountry — aboard the historic aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Tickets include access aboard the Yorktown, live music, kids’ activities, local food and beverage vendors and a 20-minute fireworks show over Charleston Harbor. Watch in awe as the waters of the historic harbor are aglow with the
dazzling lights of the fireworks.

Writing from the Wild workshop
This generative writing workshop incorporates movement, meditation and collaboration to get participants into a wild and free creative state of mind. Hunt Scarritt, a college professor, playwright, actor and literary agent, developed this workshop to help writers of all skill levels break free of creative blocks and get into the flow of writing. Students should bring their notebook and pen.

Snow Monkeys, a Japanese-French fusion restaurant on Johns Island, is open at 3297 Maybank Highway. Chef Zach Woody offers a menu featuring items like beef and potato croquettes with Japanese barbecue sauce and Alabama white sauce as well as chilled corn soup with poached shrimp, tarragon, nasturtium and lobster crumble.

Rita’s Seaside Grille launched its new catering program. From smoked chicken wings and loaded nachos to a slider lineup featuring cheeseburgers and shrimp po’boys, the menu is packed with crowd favorites. Guests can also enjoy fresh salads, heartier dishes like pulled pork platters and prime rib, and end on a sweet note with classic key lime pie and housemade bread pudding.

Philosophers & Fools is hosting “Sunday Spritz with Crosswords & Croissants” every Sunday through the end of August. Each installment offers special spritz and croissant sandwich menus (both available only on Sundays). Complimentary crossword puzzles will also be available. Additionally, on Monday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the bookstore hosts a Service Industry Night with drink specials of $1 off wine by the glass, $1 off cans of beer and $5 off bottles of wine.

On July 9, Renzo will host a fire-fueled summer dinner with Blackbird Club, a new offering from the app that allows restaurants to identify, connect with and reward guests. Executive Chef Colin Marcelli will serve off-menu hits, wood-fired everything and dishes you won’t find again. The evening will begin with spritzes, a raw bar, and pizza bites in the backyard before a four-course feast accompanied by live jazz. Guests have the option to add either a classic or a premium wine pairing and seatings are at 6 and 8 p.m.

GrowFood Carolina, South Carolina’s first local food hub, is hosting a tour of its warehouse from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 11. Tickets give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the facility and the opportunity to meet GrowFood and Coastal Conservation League staff before ending with a snack prepared by Shuai Wang, executive chef and owner of Jack Rabbit Filly and King BBQ and recent Top Chef television finalist.
