Area voters head to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in several municipal elections, including half of the council seats in Charleston and Mount Pleasant as well as mayor of that town.
Five of six Charleston City Council races are contested with only longtime council member Mike Seekings not facing an opponent. Races include:
- District 2: Incumbent and insurance agent Kevin Shealy will face political newcomer Abraham D. Champagne in this seat that represents voters in West Ashley.
- District 4: Longtime incumbent Robert Mitchell will face nonprofit executive Aaron Polkey and past candidate Luqman S. Rasheed in this peninsular seat.
- District 6: Veteran incumbent William Dudley Gregorie will face Charleston restaurateur Ben DโAllesandro in this Westside district on the peninsula.
- District 10: Incumbent Stephen Bowden will face civil engineer William Connor in West Ashley.
- District 12: With incumbent Caroline Parker not running, three newcomers are facing off โ nonprofit CEO Leslie Skardon, marketing professional Deanna Miller and Annette Begner, all of James Island.ย

In Mount Pleasant, incumbent Mayor Will Haynie will face newcomer Curt Thomas, a retired Air Force officer and former state trooper.
Nine candidates, including incumbents John Iacofano, Gary Santos and Mike Tinkey, are vying for four seats on Mount Pleasant town council. Newcomers include Alexandra Crosby, nurse anesthetist Jenny DeSart, entrepreneur Brianna Harmon, lifelong resident Perry Rourk, Craig S. Russack and Kathryn Whitaker. The top four vote-getters will win the seats.
Other Charleston County communities with elections include Awendaw, Folly Beach, Hollywood, Isle of Palms, James Island, Kiawah Island, Lincolnville, Meggett, Ravenel, Rockville, Seabrook Island and Sullivanโs Island. Learn more online at charlestoncitypaper.com.
Candidates for each community include:
- Awendaw: Candidates for mayor are Willette L. Alston, Chris Crolley and Bettye Simmons-Weeks. Candidates for three council seats are: Frank Frazier, Grace Gasper, Darrell Ketchens, Samuel G. McNeal, Rodney L., Porcher and John T. Timmons.
- Folly Beach: Five candidates for mayor are: Chris Bizzell, Elton Culpepper, Katherine Houghton, Ann Peets and D.J. Rich. Candidates for three council seats are: William Farley, Skip Fink, Blair Holladay, John McFarland, Jimmy Rawls and Annie Whiting.
- Hollywood: Candidates for three seats: Benita L. Curnell, Brian Groveman, Genea Mitchell, Aaron Roland Washington, Dawn Watson and Temeka Heyward White.
- Isle of Palms: Mayoral candidates include Scott Pierce, Phillip Pounds and Jon Regan Walters. Candidates for four council seats are: John Bobosian, David Cohen, Larry Kramer, Zach Lary, Katie Miars, Bev Miller, Krista Swingle and Andrew J. Vega.
- James Island: Running for three council seats are Julia Drayton Krumblin, Stanley T. Kozikowski, Kristen Meredith Poston and Michael OโShaughnessy Williams.
- Kiawah Island: Mayor Brad Belt is unopposed. Candidates for two council seats are: E. Luke Farrell and Madeleine Kaye.
- Lincolnville: Mayoral candidates are Tyrone Aiken, Enoch Dickerson III and Charles B. Duberry. Council candidates are Emanuel Prince, Myra Washington-Dyson and Betty J. Weldon.
- McClellanville: Mayor Rutledge Leland III faces no opposition. Candidates for four council seats are: Malcolm Baldwin, Christopher Bates, Robert J. Gannon and Jim Scott.
- Meggett: Candidates for two council seats are Tommy Butler and Keith McCarty.
- Ravenel: Candidates for three council seats are LaJuanda LJ Brown, Robert Cochran, Jan Denham, Charles Glover, Micah McCarty, Nicole Murdaugh-Barron and Ashton T. Singleton.
- Rockville: Mayor Riley Bradham is unopposed. Candidates for council are Tammy T. Bazzle, Henry C. Holst, Whit Smith and Frank Thornhill.
- Seabrook Island: Mayor Bruce Kleinman is unopposed. Candidates for four council seats are: Pat Faulkner, Raymond Hamilton, Thomas J. Hund and Darryl May.
- Sullivanโs Island: Mayor Patrick M. OโNeil is unopposed. Candidates for three council seats are Melanie W. Burkhold, Scott A. Millimet, Justin P. Noval, Laura Schroder and Garry Visser.
