Captain’s Comic Expo
Charleston’s biggest comic convention is back with more than ever. This year’s expo will feature more than 135 tables of comics, art, cosplays and more. The 18th annual event will be held this weekend in a 1,6000-square-foot venue and will welcome special guests like John Swasey (voice of All for One in My Hero Academia), Kent Williams (voice of several characters in Dragon Ball), Barringer Fox (visual effects artist behind several superhero movies) and more.

Winter Farmers Market
Coastal Coffee Roasters’ Winter Farmers Market opens shop every Saturday morning during the chilly months. Opt for opera at CofC production

WHAT’S NEW
Dumplings and ices: Bareo, a new dumpling and kakigōri (a Japanese shaved ice dessert) restaurant from James Beard Award–finalist and Chef Nikko Cagalanan and Paula Kramer, has opened at 73 Spring St., the former Kultura space. The restaurant is inspired by Japanese and Filipino cuisines. The menu has items like steamed dumplings, onigiri, handrolls, dumpling noodle soup and rotating bento-style share plates. Open daily from noon to 10 p.m.

Speakeasy: Johnny Caldwell of The Cocktail Bandits is behind the bar at a new speakeasy, The 1021 Room, at Holy City Brewing in North Charleston. Caldwell or a guest bartender will be slinging cocktails Fridays through Sundays during brewery hours, and the space can also be rented for private parties and events. A raw bar is available upon request as is a snack menu.

New dive: The teams behind Legend Deli and Burns Alley are opening Reggie’s Tavern at 2023 Reynolds Ave. Slated to open imminently, the location will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Expect items like hot dogs and chicken sandwiches as well as a special late night menu.

Powered by plants: Amor Healing Kitchen, an organization that serves those facing critical health challenges and connects the community through plant-based foods, is hosting the inaugural Amor Fest at 5 p.m. Feb. 21 at Treehouse Brewery in North Charleston. There will be organic beer from Freehouse, music by Flatt City Bluegrass, live painting, a silent auction and activities for kids. Vegan chili cookout participants include Chef Charlie Layton of Basic Kitchen, Chef Lesley Carroll of Jack of Cups, Huriyali owner Tom McFall and others.
