After 30 years of flowery hugs, cries and professions of love, 15-time Best of Charleston winner Tiger Lily Florist has seen just about every possible occasion when it comes to flowers.

“It’s our highest honor to be trusted with those occasions.” Lisa Holmes, owner of Tiger Lily, told Charleston City Paper in a recent interview “We approach each order with a deep commitment to quality, innovation and service because being part of our guests’ special moments is a privilege we never take lightly.”

Friends and clients can celebrate with the shop in a 30th anniversary event on March 10 at the downtown and James Island locations. The first 50 guests will get free florals and complimentary cupcakes from Almond Dust Patisserie — all as a way to tantalize noses and tastebuds.

The event will also feature gift card giveaways, festive music and photos with the Pink Figgy vintage car. The Spring Street location will also feature a gelato cart from Gelati Moto.

Since 1996, the female-owned business has been an unwavering supporter in many Charlestonian’s biggest moments. The shop has helped blushing brides pick the perfect bouquet, families say goodbye to loved ones with dignity, and graduates walk across the Cistern with roses in hand — hopeful blooms of new beginnings.

Clara and Manny Gonzales founded Tiger Lily in 1996 after moving from Chicago to pursue floral design and open a small downtown shop. What began as a small boutique grew into one of the region’s most in-demand florists.

Holmes joined the company in 2008 as a wedding designer, became general manager a year later and purchased the business in 2018 — the same year the James Island location opened.
She said the floral industry has changed significantly over the years with the introduction of online click-to-order shops and grocery store arrangements. Tiger Lily Florist has worked hard to differentiate itself by committing to customers.

“Clients value the professionalism, attention to detail and dependable, timely service that define the Tiger Lily experience,” Holmes said.

As Charleston has grown over the years, Tiger Lily has grown, too. From navigating industry changes to expanding to new locations, the floral shop continues to anchor itself in the community that helped build it. The store has partnered with organizations such as Dock Street Theatre, Charleston Symphony, Meals on Wheels, Trident Technical College and the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center to give back to the Holy City.

“Thirty years strong — and we’re just getting started.” Holmes said.
