Reports taken from April 6 to April 12
Oldest trick in the book
An elderly man on April 10 reportedly stole a small box containing frozen TV dinners from a Dorchester Road grocery store, according to a police report. North Charleston police investigated in the area but were unable to find the suspect. According to the report, security footage showed the man hiding the dinners behind his back as he walked past the checkout counter and out of the store. Slick!
Smell test
Charleston police on April 6 caught a man smoking a hand-rolled cigarette in a Mary Street parking garage. Based on what they smelled, police checked to see if he was smoking weed — and he was, of course. While searching the man, they found about 8 grams of marijuana hidden in his right sock. Unfortunate timing — only a couple weeks before 4/20!
Curious selection
A Mount Pleasant man on April 12 reportedly snuck several items from a department store into the restroom to get them out of their packages in an attempt to steal them. Among the items, he brought a bike chain breaker and two pedal sets. Interesting choices, buddy. Good luck explaining that one to the police after the shoplifting citation.
Spy vs. Spy?
Mount Pleasant police on April 12 received a phone call from a man who claimed his phone was stolen by a woman hired by his ex-wife. His evidence? The woman was wearing clothes that were “too casual for her face,” and another woman with her was dressed “covertly.” About an hour later, someone else called in to say they found the missing phone on a sidewalk. Talk about anti-climactic.
