Reports taken from July 6 to July 12

Happy birthday?

Security footage captured a West Ashley woman on July 6 stealing about $200 worth of items from a Sam Rittenberg Boulevard grocery store. The haul included six lamb chops, five ribeye steaks and two Disney princess-branded bags. We can only assume she’s planning one hell of a birthday dinner for one very lucky Disney princess fan. Let us know because we do love an excuse to don a pink party hat.

Payday!

A North Charleston police officer on July 9 accidentally ran over a man during a routine traffic stop when he reportedly forgot to put his patrol car in park while speaking with the man in front of the police cruiser. The car reportedly hit the man’s leg at “idle speed.” The man denied any medical assistance, assuring the officer that he was not hurt. The man was let off with a warning. Props to the guy’s self-control and honesty. Some of us might have milked that incident for all it was worth.

Six Seven!

Mount Pleasant police on July 12 cited a man for public intoxication after he fell off his bicycle and told officers he was “too drunk for that bike ride.” According to a report, the man was wearing at least four pairs of pants at once, wouldn’t stop quoting movies and made several “six seven jokes.” Police gave him a ticket and called his sister to pick him up. So-so it goes.

See? New leaf!

North Charleston police on July 9 stopped a vehicle for making an improper turn as well as a license place display violation. But things changed when the driver told officers he was carrying a firearm — and had prior arrests for “unlawful carry and murder,” according to the report. Officers ran the gun through their internal system, cleared him of any issues and let him off with a warning. Wow, we guess people can change!
