Last week’s mystery, “Big box,” shows the tomb of the late U.S. Sen. and Vice President John C. Calhoun in Charleston.
Writes sleuth George Graf of Palmyra, Va., who shared an oddity about the burial: “John C. Calhoun is buried at the historic St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Cemetery located at 142 Church Street in Charleston. … Calhoun, who was born in Abbeville, was buried at St. Philip’s in 1850, despite the fact that he was a Calvinist who attended the Huguenot Church when in Charleston.”
Others who correctly identified what proved to be a tough mystery were Frank Bouknight of Summerville, Allan Peel of San Antonio, Texas; and Jay Altman of Columbia.
