Reports taken from July 20 to July 26
Something smells fishy
A James Island woman told Charleston police on July 23 someone stuffed five dead fish into her mailbox, creating an “overwhelming and pungent odor that permeated the entire mailbox.” Police said the woman is known for reporting several kids to the state Department of Natural Resources for fishing a pond on her property. Related? Hmmm. Yeah, probably. Gross? Oh yeah, absolutely.
No respect around here
North Charleston police on July 26 picked up a boy walking along Interstate 26. He told officers he was running away from home (to Publix, specifically) because his mother was “making him do chores.” He gave police his address, and his mother said she didn’t know he had run away and suspected he was walking to his grandparents’ house or the community pool. Police released the kid back to his mother. Hard to believe: Two stories about the same incident.
Just cooling off
Mount Pleasant police on July 24 arrested an apparently drunken man on Hungryneck Boulevard after watching him crawl out of a retention pond with his bicycle. Police pieced together the scene pretty quickly, even though the man couldn’t coherently answer any of their questions. It helped that they found two empty mini-bottles of whisky in his backpack.
Good mood, huh?
North Charleston police on July 25 stopped a man for driving a vehicle with expired tags. The man admitted to smoking marijuana in the car. An officer also found a loaded firearm tucked under the driver’s seat — his girlfriend’s, though, he said. Despite the marijuana and “a few criminal charges” on the driver’s rap sheet, the officer let him off with a warning.
Anyone else confused?
A North Charleston woman on July 26 called city police to report someone had stolen several items from her shed where she stored wedding mementos. She explained she sold a trailer to someone, who sold the trailer to someone else, and the trailer was parked near the shed. Apparently, the buyer(s) thought the shed was included in the sale. Police told her this was a civil matter, and wished her luck. Happy tax-free weekend, y’all.
Put the lotion in the basket
Charleston police on July 20 responded to a Savannah Highway pharmacy after receiving reports that someone stole over a dozen bottles of lotion from the store. Officers quickly found the suspect and the stolen goods — roughly $200 worth of lotion — and returned them to the store before arresting the thief. Hey, y’all, might want to check that guy’s house. You know … just in case.
