Buffet and bug out
Three people on Aug. 28 reportedly dined and dashed from a Rivers Avenue Chinese buffet without paying, North Charleston police reported. Employees said the trio sat and ate before suddenly exclaiming that they didn’t like the food. And then they fled, leaving the restaurant with what was essentially a doggie bag of an unpaid tab. There’s a lot here with which we don’t agree — the stealing, the nefarious sneaking and, most of all, saying you didn’t like the food at a Chinese buffet. You know it was good.
What does it take?
Mount Pleasant police on Aug. 28 stopped a vehicle with no license plate that was traveling on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. When the driver pulled over, he also told officers he didn’t have his license on him and that it was currently suspended. He also admitted to lying to officers about where he was going. Despite the suspicious circumstances and law violations, police let him off with a warning — and had his passenger take the wheel.
If we can’t have it …
Charleston police on Aug. 19 received a complaint from the owners of a downtown funeral home after an evicted renter allegedly stole door handles and light fixtures from the building. Two air conditioning units were also missing. A technician found that drain lines and copper wires were cut. Note: Someone send this report to our landlord, please. See, we aren’t so bad after all.
A little confused
Charleston police on Aug. 21 approached an apparently drunken man on a Meeting Street sidewalk. As they approached, the man tossed a bottle of vodka on the ground. Officers picked it up, and the man exclaimed that they had just broken the law! After all, he said, it’s “unlawful to smoke” in city parks. Sprung the wrong trap, buddy. Police arrested him — and not themselves — for public intoxication.
