MORNING HEADLINES | The Citadel and the College of Charleston earned superior marks in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings for top public universities in the South.
The Citadel took the top spot in two categories: best public university in the South — for the 16th time — and best regional university in the South.
“This ranking [as best public university in the South] is a credit to our exceptional faculty and staff who work tirelessly to prepare our cadets and students for their next steps after graduation,” said Retired USMC Gen. Frank McKenzie, president of the Citadel. “Our unique educational model continues to successfully develop principled leaders and citizen-soldiers in a way that is recognized around the country.”
Meanwhile, the College of Charleston ranked third in the South in the best public university category, continuing its streak of national recognition now spanning 11 consecutive years.
“This year’s rankings validate what our campus community experiences every day: extraordinary teaching, ongoing innovation and a student experience focused on well-being and belonging,” College of Charleston President Andrew Hsu said. “I am particularly proud of our double-digit jumps in key academic programs, which show that our commitment to academic quality, career readiness, workforce development and student success is producing real-world results.”
