MORNING HEADLINES | Gov. Henry McMaster on Wednesday ordered flags atop the S.C. Statehouse be at half-staff today to honor the public service of popular former College of Charleston President and leader Alex Sanders, who died Oct. 21 at age 88.
In the order, McMaster highlighted Sanders’ commitment to public service as the state’s first chief judge of the S.c. Court of Appeals and services as a member of the S.C. Senate and S.C. House.
He also praised Sanders’ advocacy for the state’s natural beauty, writing that he “helped preserve the tract that would become Congaree National Park and also laid the groundwork for Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo.”
The flags will remain at half-staff through sunset today.
