[embed-2] For almost 10 years, Jared Smith has been providing Charleston with weather news via Twitter as @chswx. About 35,000 of you follow him for daily forecasts, severe weather updates, and pretty and/or terrifying storm cloud photos.

For all 44,000 tweets dating back to 2007, Smith, who is a web developer by day, has paid to run the service out of pocket. Weather watching in Charleston and beyond is as much an interest to him as it is a responsibility.

To that end, Smith has set up a Patreon page where supporters and those interested in knowing more about local weather can help cover the costs.

“I want to cement @chswx‘s place in #chstwitter (and beyond) for the long term,” Smith said on the page explaining the move. “It’s pretty clear you like it, and nine years in I love doing the weather for y’all more than ever.”

Donations range from a modest $2 to $50 a month in increments along the way that get you access to additional @chswx content, access to a @chswx Slack channel, gear, and more.
