Sometimes it’s difficult in the muggy Lowcountry to truly conjure up the holiday spirit. Barely a nip in the air, nary a snowflake in sight. Year after year, though, James Island County Park is transformed into a bright, whimsical, winter wonderland during the Holiday Festival of Lights. Starting Nov. 10 through Jan. 1, you can hop in your car and take a tour of more than 700 light displays, from illuminated snowmen to larger-than-life crabs.

And, starting Nov. 13, you can help families in need while spending time with your own family. Monday through Thursday evenings, drivers who bring a canned food item for donation will save $5 on vehicle admission (usually $20 per vehicle).

All cans are donated to the Lowcountry Food Bank; last year, 14,681 pounds of food were donated by Festival attendees, which equated to an estimated 12,234 meals.
