Red Handed played its “last show” under the auspicious band name on Wednesday night, declaring once and for all a name change was in the imminent future. Originally branded “Agynst,” the local rock group has yet to find a fitting moniker. The mid-set announcement did nothing to dampen the mood of the evening, which was lively for a humpday event. The intense energy that fans have come to expect from lead singer/guitarist Scott Gould, guitarist Drew Reindollar, drummer Matt Reindollar, and bassist Kenny Varner was present throughout. The band quickly worked up a sweat while moving non-stop under the heavy stage lights. They performed several well-known, riff-heavy songs from their self-titled EP, including “These Are the Days” and “San Francisco,” which Gould performed as if he was seducing his mic stand (female audience members happily sang along). Diverting from their traditional path, Gould and the crew performed one cover from completely outside of their genre. Lyrics from Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” were unexpected, yet it worked and the crowd ate it up. The band announced an upcoming break from the live gigs during which they will be recording a full-length album. Having finally broken from a dead-end deal with Virgin Records, Red Handed will be funding the stint in a recording studio in Tennessee, hoping the project will lead to a more successful venture.
