MORNING NEWSBREAK  |  Former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie won the Tuesday Republican runoff for Charleston County sheriff against opponent Greg Kitchens.

Ritchie, a current member of Mount Pleasant’s town council, earned 59.6% percent of the vote, with Kitchens taking 40.4% in Tuesday’s runoff election, according to unofficial results from the S.C. Election Commission.  In the June 11 GOP primary, Kitchens outpolled Ritchie by a 45-42 margin in a field of four candidates. Ritchie will face incumbent Democratic Sheriff Kristin Graziano in November.

Meanwhile in other races across the state, “sister senator” and 12-year veteran lawmaker Katrina Shealy lost big to Carlisle Kennedy in a GOP Lexington County Senate runoff.
