MORNING HEADLINES | Thirteen to 18 named Atlantic storms may come this summer when hurricane season ramps up on June 1, according to new predictions from AccuWeather. As many as six may impact the United States, experts say.
Up to 10 named storms may turn into hurricanes, half of which may become major hurricanes, forecasters said, adding that hurricane season could get an early start in May due to warmer ocean temperatures..
“Everyone needs to start planning and preparing for hurricane season,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said in a statement. “Climatology, weather patterns, water temperatures, and many other factors all point to yet another active Atlantic hurricane season with more tropical storms and hurricanes forming, compared to the historical average.”

Upstate wildfires still burning … and are growing. The S.C. Department of Environmental Services on Wednesday issued an air quality warning for Upstate areas due to smoke and ash from 6,000 acres of raging mountain wildfires that continue to grow. Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect in Greenville and Pickens counties north of S.C. Highway 11. Two Greenville schools have canceled outdoor events.
Trump escalates trade war with 25% tariffs on autos. In a move that’s expected to raise prices, President Trump on Wednesday said he would impose a 25% tariff on foreign cars and car parts, effective April 3. The new tax would hit more than half of all automobiles sold in the country.
