Reports taken from June 24 to July 7

The grandest larceny

North Charleston on July 5 responded to the reported theft of a bounce house after the owner allegedly rented it to someone else for an event, and one of the guests apparently took it before it could be returned. This might be one of the most difficult items to steal weโ€™ve ever seen successfully stolen, and frankly, weโ€™re just as impressed as we are confused.

Old car smell

A West Ashley man who was  driving a truck in apparent disrepair on June 24 reportedly dripped a โ€œtar-likeโ€ substance on the street outside another manโ€™s Saint Andrews Boulevard home. The driver told police he has taken the vehicle to several different repair shops which have refused to work on it due to its โ€œfoul smell,โ€ despite several power washings. Yeah, we hear that happens with age.

Bad sequels

Mount Pleasant police on July 7 responded to the Charleston Harbor Resort after an apparently drunken man pushed over a computer monitor after yelling and looking for his wife. Police noted the monitor was not damaged, and they advised the man to โ€œsleep it offโ€ without pressing any charges. Itโ€™s been a while since weโ€™ve seen the Tron movies, but this new one doesnโ€™t seem nearly as compelling as the classics.

Oops

A North Charleston woman on July 3 accidentally tipped a server at a Northwoods Boulevard restaurant $1,000 instead of $10 โ€” and sent it directly to his Cashapp. When she later went to the manager to get her money back, she was told that the server had already spent the full $1,000 to pay his child support. Thereโ€™s a lesson (or two) here. Weโ€™re just sure of it.

Didnโ€™t even try

A Mount Pleasant woman on July 4 reportedly abandoned her blue Toyota Corolla on the side of U.S. Highway 17 after it โ€œdied,โ€ she told officers. Police noted a tow truck driver was able to enter the vehicle and start it up with the key left inside before driving it onto the tow truck. The woman said she made no attempt to move the vehicle after it supposedly died.
