Weather officials on a sunny Sunday morning warned Charleston-area residents to be safe if traveling as Saturday night snow will make roads icy and potentially dangerous.
“Although the sun is out, roadways continue to be very hazardous in Charleston County,” according to a text message sent as an alert. “We urge you to exercise extreme caution if you must travel today.” More: weather.gov/chs.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service early Sunday said the risk of accumulating snow has ended, but “extremely cold temperatures are expected this weekend into early next week. Historic bitter cold will continue this morning.” Late Tuesday, expect rain.
A cold weather advisory is expected through Monday.
“Minimum wind chills of 0 to -5 above zero are expected and an Extreme Cold
Warning remains in place for all of the South Carolina Lowcountry and Southeast Georgia. For tonight, it will be warmer with lows dropping into the lower-mid teens inland to the mid- upper 20s closer to the coast. A combination of low temperatures and lingering wind chills will support a Cold Weather Advisory for all areas tonight into Monday morning.” More info.
