After a hiatus, the Skate Park of Charleston is once again doubling as a hot spot for hardcore and metal shows. Local promoter Paul J. Taylor Jr. first began booking shows at the North Charleston skate park three months ago. “It’s a match made in heaven,” he says.
For the past four-plus years, Taylor has been booking and promoting shows, but he didn’t approach the Skate Park until after its regular promoter moved out of town.
Tonight, Wed. June 5, you can catch a triple-bill of metal, featuring Darkest Hour, Godwin Falcon, and Full Metal Jacket at 8 p.m. On Wed. June 12, the Skate Park hosts Long Island, N.Y., punkers Kills and Thrills, while Guttermouth will bring its brand of shocktastic, snot-nosed Cali-punk to the North Chuck venue on Thurs. June 20; both shows start at 7 p.m.
The Skate Park of Charleston will also host the two-day Charleston Sound and Skate Festival July 12-13, featuring Hundredth, Counterparts, The Mongoloids, and Suburban Scum. As for which shows Taylor is looking forward to the most, he says he’s particularly excited for tonight’s Darkest Hour gig and Guttermouth. He says that Guttermouth “is in for a treat at the Skate Park.”
