NEWS STAFF

Skyler Baldwin (news) joined the City Paper team in the early fall of 2019, rounding out the news staff before the pandemic turned the world upside-down. A graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma, he moved across the country to West Ashley before moving with his wife to Goose Creek in 2024, where they live with their two dogs.

Herb Frazier (news) is a Charleston-based author and former public relations director at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston. Before he joined Magnolia, Frazier edited and reported for five daily newspapers in the South, including his hometown paper, The Post and Courier. He was S.C. Journalist of the Year for the S.C. Press Association in 1990.

Vincent Harris (music) has been writing for the City Paper since 2015. He’s won multiple South Carolina Press Association awards, covered a couple of hundred national and local musicians and performers over the years, and we sent him to jail once. It was to cover a jazz concert, not, like, for a felony or anything.

Maura Hogan (arts and culture) has held staff positions at The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Time Inc. and Random House. She was a former arts critic at the Charleston Post and Courier. Her work has also appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Gourmet, Garden and Gun, and Charleston Magazine.

Becky Tanenbaum Lacey (cuisine) is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Bowdoin College (go Polar Bears!). She has lived in Charleston since 2011. A former professional chef and pro sports publicist, you can usually find her in the kitchen, reading or watching football with her husband Will when she’s not chasing her daughters or menagerie of animals. When not writing and editing for the City Paper, she is planning events for Ladybird Books, an independent bookstore in downtown Charleston.

Jack O’Toole (Statehouse news) covers state government and politics. Prior to joining the City Paper, he served as director of communications for the city of Charleston.

EDITOR AND PUBLISHER

Andy Brack has a 35-year career in journalism.  He is a graduate of Duke University with a master’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which may make you wonder which team he pulls for (neither, really). A former press secretary for a U.S. senator, he was named a “champion of change” by the Obama administration.
