POP FEST ON THE HORIZON
What does the term “pop music” mean to you? Well, it means everything to Explorers Club singer/guitarist Jason Brewer. He recently announced the initial lineup for the first annual “Holy City Pop Festival,” to be held at Cumberland’s on Sat. March 25. “The festival’s aim is to bring together wonderful music by presenting local Charleston and regional acts on the same stage,” says Brewer. “It will be at the fabulous Cumberland’s, along with a few other Charleston venues. Stay tuned for lineup and other information.” Featured performers for the all-evening event include Cary Ann Hearst, The Bedrooms, Bill Carson, Chimney Sweeps, The Californias, Tectonic, Schooner, Dodger, Actress, and Fabulous Bird. DO IT AGAIN
Local rock/pop-punk trio Rosemont — guitarist Ed Blanton, bass player Aaron Lawhon, and drummer Phil Capron — re-release their self-produced new album These Streets Alone on Thurs. Feb. 9 with a big show at Toucan Reef, with supporting acts Paul Pavlich and Fireworks Show. “We decided to have a re-release because the CofC had adjourned for the semester and many of our college fans could not attend the original release party at the Music Farm [in late Dec.],” says Capron. MASTERFUL
In an apparent act of self-assuredness, progressive-headed local power trio Evolutionaire — bassist Taylor Nelson, guitarist Chris Patterson, and drummer Jordan Herschaft — have changed the band name to “Maestro.” They reintroduced themselves under the masterful moniker at a show last weekend at the Village Tavern.
