I’ve had several conversations with arts folk lately. Talk quickly turns to the economy.
Like everyone else, art organizations are feeling the pinch of a collapsed housing market, high fuel costs, and what feels like a recession even if we’re not calling it that.
It’s likely ticket prices to go up slightly, if at all. What’s certain is that philanthropy has taken a hit, with patron’s investment portfolio’s looking leaner than in years past.
I was reminded of all this by a report yesterday on Marketplace, the business news show produced by American Public Media.
There’s a name for what we’ve been feeling lately — inflation.
