It looks like last year’s buyouts weren’t enough to stop the bleeding at the Post and Courier. Several managers and long-time staff members were let go today as shoulders were tapped and boxes were packed at Charleston’s daily newspaper.

Names we’ve heard from the inside are internet director Paul Crawford, marketing director Craig Rogers, and arts writer Dottie Ashley. As far as I know, reporters I see on a weekly basis have not been impacted.

A brief release from the paper notes it’s all about the bottom line.

“We remain committed to producing the best and most authoritative source of news and information in the Lowcountry through The Post and Courier and Charleston.net,” said publisher Larry Tarleton.

Yesterday, I overheard a reporter from the paper complaining about his transfer to another beat. Lets hope that he feels lucky to have a job today. I know I do.
