MORNING HEADLINESย  |ย  Nearly 564,000 South Carolinians had voted as of midday Oct. 26, topping the total ballots cast ahead of Election Day in 2022 by more than 2,000 votes.

โ€œThe bigger counties are the ones that weโ€™re seeing the bigger numbers as well. But then even in some of our smaller counties, weโ€™re seeing big turnouts for them as well. Just counties throughout the state, weโ€™re seeing that large turnout of early voters coming out to take advantage of the opportunity to vote early,โ€ said Sydni Bain with the South Carolina Election Commission.

During the first two days of early voting, more 192,000 ballots were cast statewide, compared with around 97,000 in 2022.

Early voting continues through Saturday.

Nationwide, more than 30 million votes were cast in midterm elections, several days ahead of the pace in 2022.

Meanwhile, former South Carolina Republican Gov. David Beasley and former South Carolina Democratic Gov. Jim Hodges announced Monday that they jointly support Dr. Annie Andrews for U.S. Senate.
