The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes has been invited to the 2010 Diamond Jubilee of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland — the only United States band to receive the honor. The popular month-long event next August includes a nightly festival of music, pageantry, and demonstrations by military organizations from around the world.

Citadel cadets previously performed at the annual event in 1991 and have remained the only college to ever take part.

“Throughout its history, The Citadel has had a tradition of duty, pride, and excellence as part of the cadet leadership experience, and the Regimental Band and Pipes is an important part of that tradition,” says Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa.

While Tattoo provides accommodations, meals, local transportation, and sightseeing expeditions, it does not cover travel to and from Scotland. To help the 100-member band and pipe members cover travel expenses, donations are being accepted at The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie St. Specify on the memo line “Band Trip to Edinburgh.”
