Penguin Books is celebrating their 75th anniversary at Blue Bicycle Books on Tues. June 22. The event will host Sue Monk Kidd, author of The Secret Life of Bees and other best sellers, as she toasts a glass of champagne and talks about how she became a Penguin author.

The celebration is free and will include Penguin cupcakes and plenty of bubbly. Kidd will arrive in the Penguin mobile, a bright orange Mini Cooper. After making her toast, she will sign copies of her newest book, Traveling With Pomegranates, along with her other famous titles.

For 15 years, Blue Bicycle Book has sold great books at a low cost with the help of companies like Penguin making books affordable. “Penguin was the first to make actual literature in paperback,” says Jonathan Sanchez, owner of Blue Bicycle.

Charleston is one of only ten stops on the Penguin anniversary tour.
