A year after the devastating loss of pop icon Michael Jackson, fans will come together on Fri. June 25 to mourn his death. From 5:30-6:30 p.m., people all over the world will gather for the MJ WorldCry 2010 in remembrance of the controversial musician.

The Michael’s Angels for Michael’s Children organization will host Charleston’s vigil at the Old Bethel Methodist Church at 222 Calhoun Street. The event is just one of the organization’s many efforts to carry on Michael’s legacy.

The event will begin with guests lighting candles and listening to the song “Cry,” followed by various renditions of the song by choral groups. The evening will continue with a presentation on Michael’s humanitarian efforts and will end with an inspirational call to action message. Let’s just hope it calls people away from plastic surgery addiction and sleepovers with the under 18 crowd.

Guests are asked to bring donations of new toys, games, stuffed animals, and books. All donated items will be given to the MUSC Children’s Hospital on Aug. 29, Michael’s birthday.

Donations can also be made on Aug. 28 at the Michael Jackson Earth and Arts Festival. The festival will be held at Riverfront Park in North Charleston and will include a dance competition and a Michael look-alike contest.
