A black sheep. Every family has one. In fact, when it comes to the world of politics, it sometimes seems like for every successful brother or sister, there’s a sibling whose life is a disaster movie, a really shitty one on the SyFy channel, preferably one involving megasharks, giant squids, and sharktopuses. And it stars Debbie Gibson. The horror. The horror.

Jimmy Carter had Billy.

Bill Clinton had Roger.

Jeb Bush had George.

And Nikki Haley has Simran Singh.

Now, it’s not exactly fair to call Simran, Nikki’s sister, a black sheep. In fact, she’s far more successful than the 2010 Republican Party gubernatorial candidate Haley. Hell, you might even say that Haley — what with inability to pay her taxes on time, her failure to disclose $42,500 in consulting income, and her struggle to release e-mails which may or may not incriminate her in an affair with an infamous political blogger — is the true black sheep of the Randhawa family.

Actually, let’s switch that.

“And Simran Singh has Nikki Haley.”

Yeah. Yeah. That works much better. I can’t believe I goofed.

After all, Simran is a highly successful, and I’m quoting her press materials here, “Visionary, Life Coach, Reconnection Practitioner, Nia Teacher, Author, Talk Show Host, Publisher of 11:11 Magazine, Founder of BELIEVE…Choices for Conscious Living, and C.H.O.I.C.E. Alliance.”

See, Simran is what some folks might call a new age guru. And while she’s not up there with Deepak Chopra or the late great L. Ron Hubbard, she’s doing pretty all right.

As for what Simran teaches, well, it’s kind of simple and kind of complex. Once again, her press materials explain it better than anything I could write:

The sacred geometry logo of 11:11 Magazine symbolizes the components of who we are: Energy, Truth, Growth, & Wisdom. As we bring those four parts of ourselves into alignment, we create unification within and among all beings. It is time to wake up to the truth of who you are. All you have to do is…Believe.

11:11 signifies the wake-up call to like at life and become more conscious of the choices that are made.

Certain collections of numbers are considered powerful and rich with message. The most powerful of these numbers, master Numbers, are 11, 22, and 33. As an individual begins a more conscious spiritual journey, the numbers 11, 111 or 11:11 will frequently appear. They are, in a sense, a communication from the Universe. Most specifically, the appearance of 11:11 is the message that guides or angels are among us, protecting and stewarding our walk between the visible and invisible realms. The more deeply onto the spiritual path one travels, other numbers will begin to appear: 22, 33, 44, 333, 444. etc..

11:11 is a pre-encoded trigger of remembrance on a cellular level. The activation of this begins at birth allowing the ability to connect, grow, avail wisdom and acquire discernment. This encoded trigger refers to the completion of duality. Here lies the direct channel between the ‘being’ and the ‘invisible’. At this place, one can pierce the veil of illusion that is binding to an unreal world. In moving beyond these veils, the Source of true power and the ability to co-create consciously with the Universe unfolds. Individuals experience a greater reality where vision becomes broader, life more expansive and the journey more meaningful.

11:11 is the bridge toward vitality and oneness,; a pathway into the positive unknown and beyond; the doorway into an entirely different spiral of evolution.

An interview that Simran gave to Higher Love offers more about Singh’s relationship with the numbers 11:11:

The one simple piece that I had that I had grasped from childhood was that I constantly had a dialogue with the universe. And my dialogue was always in numbers. And I would always see 11, 1 11 or 11 11, and that was kind of my game, my little dialogue that I would speak back and forth. So whenever I had a question and needed confirmation about something, I would speak it out loud, and then, all of a sudden, I would start seeing the numbers. And if I didn’t see the numbers, I knew that was not a step I was not supposed to take. I’m not all that special in that I see this language and others don’t. People all over the world are seeing 11:11 or 20:2 or 30:3 or 4:44. Or whatever variety of numbers that they consistently see. And those mean something. They really are intended to be that language from the universe. that we each can have if we allow ourself to pay attention.

While Simran has seen 11:11 since childhood, it wasn’t until a particular bleak time in her life that she came to an epiphany regarding them:

And so as I was in my depths of despair and depression, and I had a small son and he was calling up from downstairs, “Please mommy, come down. Let me see you. I haven’t seen you in weeks.

I would just kind of stay in bed and I would roll over, and every time I would look at the clock it would be 1:11 or 11:11. And those were the only times that I would end up turning over and seeing the clock.

So after about two weeks of this, I become so angry when I saw that last 11:11, I said, “What is it about this? Do you want me to know something about these numbers? Tell me right now or otherwise stop it.”

Sometimes you have to get to that point where you just really decree what that meaning is. And in that moment, I got a complete download of the very first issue [of 11:11 the magazine]. From cover to cover. I got the logo. I got the cover. I got the smell and the feel of the paper. I saw every article as it flipped pages. I could read the words. And it was enough to help me get back up and at least desire living. I knew that in creating that magazine, although it was going to touch other people in whatever way it needed to, it was there first and foremost to help me heal. And that was what I understand very succinctly at that time, that whatever we do creatively we first have to do for ourselves because when we do it for ourselves only then can it touch the hearts of others and so I sat down and I started writing the first issue of the magazine. And spent about 30 days dictating from my head what I had seen and put it together.

As for what the 11:11s might mean for the rest of humanity, Simran says:

There definitely is a shifting of the universe. There are gridlines that are shifting within the earth that are energetic. The 11:11s are showing up more and more for people as they are opening up to their own spiritual path. And it is basically to symbolize the gateway, that here is the gate. We are here whether you want to call us angels or ascended masters or light beings or White Brotherhood, whatever you want to call us, we are here in full support of you. You are not alone. And as people open up to that and allow themselves this gift of communication ,they’ll not just see the 11:11s, they start to see other numbers. And they’ll start to discern what that means for them. I think this whole awakening that is occurring is because people have started to realize that either I can stay in the degree of pain that exists in this physical realm at this moment or I can allow myself to realize that I have the power to move myself out of that and still be in this physical experience.

Of course, it’s important to note that Simran alone isn’t behind the magazine. She has help:

Every September I get a download for what the year’s next issue are supposed to be themed. I would love to take credit for this magazine. It’s an exquisite piece, but I don’t do this magazine. It comes through me. Somehow the right articles show up. It is so cohesive there is no way possible I could do this myself.

In addition to putting out a pretty slick mag, Simran runs a “life enhancement center” in Lexington called Believe. It’s pretty swanky, offering an aqua chi room, an energy room, a soul cinema, a pyramid healing room, and much more. Now, if all of this sounds interesting to you, you can check out the prices here.

Yeah, I think I made the right choice.

Here’s to you Simran Singh. You’re an American success story. Here’s hoping your black sheep sister doesn’t drag you down.
