The Windjammer on the IOP experienced an odd incident and a strange bit of rock music news this week. In both cases, the related shows stayed intact.
Country singer Randy Houser was scheduled to perform at the Windjammer on Wed. March 9 with support Sunny Sweeney, Frankie Ballard, Ashley Gearing, and Margaret Durante. The gig was benefit show sponsored by 96.9 The Wolf for the St. Judeโs Childrenโs Research Hospital in Memphis.

- Randy Houser’s tour bus on the Isle of Palms
According to the singerโs publicist, Houserโs crew noticed flames emanating from the rear suite of their tour bus around 1:45 p.m., causing thick black smoke to billow throughout the corridor and main cabin. The bus was parked just outside of the Windjammer. Houser and all the band and crew members were safely evacuated, however all of their gear, clothing and personal belongings were lost.
Houser sent a message that โall are safeโ to his manager, adding: โFire is out. Lost all my clothes. Iโm pretty sad, but so thankful we all got off safely. That fire burned all through our home on wheels.โ Despite the incident, the band performed as scheduled. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it has not been determined whether or not the bus will be able to be saved through repairs. Check out randyhouser.com for more.
Another Jammer show on this weekโs schedule is Days of the New on Sun. March 13, initially billed as โfeaturing Mike Starr of Alice in Chains.โ Unfortunately, the former Alice in Chains bassist was found dead in a Salt Lake City house on Tues. March 8. In 2009, Starr went public with his drug problems on the reality TV show Celebrity Rehab. He was 44. According to Windjammer management, Days of the New is still solid for the show.
