Shannon Whitworth

Songwriter and banjo player Shannon Whitworth, a Brevard, N.C.-based bandleader and acclaimed folk music chanteuse, is solid for an outdoor concert at the scenic Magnolia Plantation. Presented by Outdoor Outfitters and the Coastal Conservation League, the Magnolia Concert on the Lawn goes from 6-10 p.m. on Fri. May 13.

A founding member of the acoustic quartet the Biscuit Burners, Whitworth formed her own combo in 2006 with Matthew Smith (pedal steel), Ryan Oslance (drums), and Chris Burt (bass).

Whitworth’s debut album, 2007’s No Expectations, established her as a serious songwriter with a lovely singing style. Her latest, Water Bound, was released last year. Folk/bluegrass band the Moonshiners share the bill at Magnolia.
