Mama Kim gives a brisk word on new King Street location

Mama Kim has been slinging bul-go-gee and bee-bim-pop out of her cozy Calhoun Street restaurant for quite some time now. Fusing Japanese and Korean fare into the express hibachi, the spot has amassed quite a following.

Recently, word has been floating around town that Mama Kim has found some new digs. We heard she’s planning on moving into the old Wok space on King Street, so I gave her a call to get the lowdown. I had never met or even so much as spoken to Mama Kim, but I’ve heard she is a sweetheart.

When I got her on the phone, I asked her if the rumors were true. “Yeah, we’re moving, but not ‘til March, thank you!” she said, clearly trying to make short work of this particular phone call.

I desperately held her on the line to ask if she had any plans to change the menu or have any specials for their grand re-opening. “I have a delivery order!” she thundered, and then, click.

Initially, I was taken aback, even though this definitely was not the first time a woman had hung up on me. Not long after our call, though, I realized Mama Kim was doing what she should be doing: worrying about her customers, not about some schlocky reporter digging for information.

For now, all we know is that Mama Kim is planning on movin’ on up to King Street in March. Well, that, and the fact that I’m a newfound masochist.
