North Charleston threw its biggest block party of the year on Saturday, with several blocks of the Old Village shut down to traffic while a crowd of thousands enjoyed beer by the plastic cupful and an impressive roster of local bands during the St. Paddy’s Block Party and Parade. And when folks started to get dizzy with the alcohol on the first hot day of the year, restaurateurs from DIG in the Park to the extremely popular Diggity Doughnuts truck were there to help them sop up the alcohol.
Most importantly, North Charleston proved she could hold her booze. The mood tended more toward a family-friendly festival than a pass-out-drunk binge session, and many parents felt comfortable bringing young children in tow.
