Let’s get this out of the way, right here and now. Republicans are Nazis.

Not in the traditional National Socialist sense, but Republicans are badge-loving, boot-sniffing fascists who like nothing better than upholding the rights of the few over the many.

With Voter ID, they want to take away the right to vote for millions of Americans.

With their anti-immigration efforts, they want to deport millions of people who have come to our country to live the American dream.

With their attacks on same-sex marriage and opposition to hate crimes legislation, they seek to deny a whole class of citizens the same rights and protections as the rest of us.

With their politically needless assault on contraception and abortion, they reveal their true intent of subjugating an entire gender.

There. Said it. Done.

Of course, there is never a good reason to play the Nazi card in public. Nothing good will ever come from it.

And this is a lesson that S.C. Democratic Party head Dick Harpootlian is learning right now — not that he cares.

A few days back, Harpootlian, a smack-talking hard-nosed politico with a penchant for attacking his opponents with gay slurs, compared S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley to Eva Braun, Adolf Hitler’s bunker-buddy lady love. Dumb move. Dumb dumb move.

Nothing makes a Nazi angrier than calling him a Nazi. They’re a lot like racists in that respect, despite their apparent differences when it comes to runway wear. For the record, a tightly fitted brown shirt and black boots combo is far more flattering to the bod than a formless white table cloth. The Schmoo look just ain’t sexy.

And so we are where we are now, with Nikki Haley telling the world what we many of us already knew — namely that Dick Harpootlian is a hateful little man who is an embarrassment to the Palmetto State — and the whole thing has become a minor Todd Akin in a teapot for the Dems. Thanks, Dick. Thanks a lot, you homophobic douche bag.

As for my fellow Democrats who thought it was a good idea to put Harpootlian back in charge of the state Democratic Party and who will want to keep him there even after this gaffe, it’s time that they realize that as long as they champion a hatemonger like Harpootlian, they’ll be no better than the Nazis they oppose.
